Q: Why did you choose the name SickFlip?
SICKFLIP: Mostly because those were my two favourite words at the time. Moreover ‘FLIP’ had its resonance because I’m intrigued by an ever-evolving or flipping character to my music which is embedded with deep contrasts, so I decided to keep the name SickFlip.
Q: What kind of response have you received for your second EP “Dark Ages”?
SICKFLIP: The response to Dark Ages EP has been pretty interesting so far. I’ve seen both the tracks ‘Madmax’ and ‘Desert bae’ resonate with really varied audiences within the country and beyond, for which I’m super grateful 🙂
Q: Do you think from “The Ladakh Project” to “Dark Ages” your music has seen some transition? Has it brought a change or a sense of maturity in you as an artist and your music?
SICKFLIP: Absolutely. Every release I put out is somewhat a condensation of a chapter in my life and Dark Ages was a really different one from The Ladakh Project in many ways. Maturity in me, yes but as far as the maturity in the music is concerned; I think it’s an ongoing process in an artist’s course of time.
Q: Who is the one artist that has been your inspiration?
SICKFLIP: Bassnectar.
Q: Your style of music is very different from many commercial artists out there? Does this have its own limitations?
SICKFLIP: Not that I can think of. Everyone is different and so is their style of music. The music I put out is solely to transfigure experiences and emotions into sounds in order to make people feel differently after the listening process.
Q: If you would have to describe your journey, how would you illustrate it?
SICKFLIP: I think its just begun.
Q: Indian underground music is making quite a noise all over the world these days, Are you happy with the current situation or you still see scope for improvement?
SICKFLIP: I am happy with the current situation considering the huge leap we’ve taken in the past 5 years but of course there’s still a lot more room for growth & improvement.
Q: Do you feel with events like What’s Brewing which is happening for the 1st time in India Budweiser is contributing to shaping the electronic music culture in the country?
SICKFLIP: Yes, without a doubt! Initiatives like these are really crucial in shaping the electronic music environment in the country, especially when we have the pleasure of showcasing our art at a venue like HKV Social.
Q: It’s been 5 months to your last EP- “Dark Ages”, any upcoming single or collaboration?
SICKFLIP: I’m cooking up my next release at the moment so keep your eyes peeled on my Facebook page for the same. (fb.com/sickflipofficial)
Q: Are you working on some new music with Mental Martians?
SICKFLIP: Nope.
Q: You have played several gigs over the years. Is there a particular gig which stands out for you, that you have really loved playing?
SICKFLIP: I think it has to be Nucleya’s Raja Baja Album Launch that I was a part of which was one for the books for sure.
Q: Lastly, how excited were you, when you heard that you will be playing for the first ever edition of EDC in India?
SICKFLIP: I honestly was full of love, gratitude & intense excitement when I learned that I was going to be a part of EDC India!
