Legendary Detroit techno crew Underground Resistance have accused Dutch trance DJ Armin van Buuren of ripping off their name and logo for his new party at Hï Ibiza, UR.
The capital letters “UR” on a plain background is, as almost everyone knows, the logo of Detroit techno collective Underground Resistance. The group has counted luminaries like Jeff Mills and Robert Hood as members, and it continues to be famed for its pioneering sonic aesthetic and profound influence on music’s role in political activism. The flyer for U R With Armin van Buuren features the trance veteran alongside a “UR” logo that looks a lot like the one that’s been used by Underground Resistance for over two decades.
Releasing a statement on their Facebook Underground Resistance said:
“Is there no shame? What happened to electronic creativity? What the fuck is it all about the money??,” “To ‘those who know’ MOVE TO CONDITION RED!! To those who steal culture, you have been warned”.
Armin van Buuren has denied being aware of any similarities to the Underground Resistance logo and said that he intends to adjust it to avoid confusion – though the party’s name will remain.
