Ever tuned into a livestream of a concert in Europe and wondered why India lacks behind? We thought of a few pointers why Indian festivals cannot match up to the ones in Europe. Europe has set an example of how EDM concerts should be done. Some of it has to be because our Government isn`t as supportive or certainly hasn`t been in the past.
Heres five reasons why concerts aren
`t as fun in India as much as in Europe
- Our Government only allows all the concerts to go on until 10:30 PM. This is usually when the concerts in Europe start. The ones we go to start at around 4 which leads to a restricted turnout. Who likes to party when it is bright and sunny? This leaves all of the upcoming talent with very few people to share their music with.
- Most of the crowd here likes to stick to the mainstage at concerts, which makes diversified artists who play diferrent genre to again have very few people to play to.
- We rarely show support to our homegrown artists. This makes it expensive for organisers since they have to look to try & book artists from different countries to attract crowds.
- The pricing of tickets here are much lower compared to the major festivals in Europe. With this it becomes tough for us to get the kinds of visuals/stages that most concerts in Europe have.
- The legal drinking age in India is 21. In most of the other countries it is 18. Now how can a concert be enjoyed without getting drunk? Most of the crowd that attends EDM concerts are in their late teenages.
These are a few reasons why we feel we haven`t matched up to the kind of festivals in Europe. Having said that, we hope things change in the future.
