It’s Time We Start Differentiating Between Celebrities And Artists

A celebrity is a person who is widely known and gets a lot of media attention. Their mere familiarity among people is enough to fetch them attention and crowds. Having said that, if we now talk about celebrities in the electronic music scene, specially Indian, some names should start popping in your minds. Although they start off as artists, they eventually become content in being a celebrity lose their artistic appeal.

An artist on the other hand serves his passion and contributes creatively to the culture. Their contribution holds undeniable value, but they fail to get proper recognition. It is rightly said that celebrities can often be artists, but artists aren’t often celebrities.

We consider big acts such as Blot!, Sandunes, Dualist Inquiry and more as artists. There are also artists who work day and night on their music but haven’t had their breakthrough moment or have gained popularity. These people don’t care about social media and are only into their own spectrum of music. They make room for experiments and don’t constrict themselves to what they know the mainstream crowd will like. They don’t play safe with their art.

It’s time we pay attention to the massively talented artists we have, big and small, who don’t get the kind of recognition they deserve. After all, it’s all about the music!
