Los Angeles based, Australian born Bella Hunter has been making waves in the electronic music industry with her music. After the viral success of her track ‘Waves’ (co-written with legendary U.S DJ / Producer Erick Morillo, which reached Top 5 on Sirius XM BPM and is also released through Armada Music), the label was captivated by Bella’s charisma, songwriting ability and her authentic female take on electronic music, inking her to a deal earlier this year. Bella became the first female Artist Armada has signed in the USA, she is also the second-ever female Artist to sign with the powerhouse label.
Most recently, Bella has worked across multiple projects, writing with various artists including Erick Morillo (they have more collaborations in the near future), Chris Malinchak, Henry Krinkle, KVR, Sweater Beats, Linda Perry, and Afrojack to name a few.
We got an amazing opportunity to chat with Bella about her music & a lot more, check it out:
1. Hey Bella, how was the first half of 2019 for you?
BH: Spectacular. And busy. Best and craziest year of my life. I inked my much-awaited contracts with Armada Music and then released my debut single, so it’s been amazing thus far… I’m also looking forward to ADE (Amsterdam Dance Event) in October when I’m performing new music with some incredible DJs, and a summer trip back to Australia at the end of the year.
2. Tell us a bit about your recent release ‘Deju Vu’ on Armin’s imprint Armada.
BH: ‘Deja Vu’ was written in New York with an incredibly talented artist (who is also a close friend), I had practically stalked him for a few years trying to work with him because I thought he was one of the most talented and brilliant humans on the planet… We finally collaborated and made this beautiful track, along with a few others, which was everything I could’ve hoped for. I was introduced to Maykel (CEO and Co-founder of Armada with Armin van Buuren) in Ibiza at the end of summer last year and started emailing discussing the possibility of working with Armada… Finally releasing ‘Deja Vu’ with a label as incredible as Armada has been a dream so far and I feel very blessed. Persistence and hard work absolutely pays off.
3. You have previously worked with the legends Erick Morillo & Kryder for House Music Anthem ‘Waves’, how was the whole process?
BH: It was so incredible. Erick is a genius, Kryder is a genius. I heard a part of the instrumental outline and started writing the song very quickly. A speedy process all up, and the success of the track was just mind-blowing. It was rotated on Sirius XM BPM in the USA all day long. (That jolt of happiness at hearing your song on the radio is definitely a little mind-blowing! It’s like a little reminder that hard work pays off.) Very grateful to say I have worked with both of those amazing producers.
4. Who were the musical influences that inspired you to make your own music?
BH: Too many. My Dad first and foremost, he was an amazing musician and artist. I was definitely the only kid I knew who grew up listening to Daft Punk and Kaskade when everyone else around me was listening to Maroon 5. There are honestly too many artists to list, suffice to say my taste is very broad and international.
5. Besides music you are quite a fashionista and designer, can you share something about your artistic venture?
BH: I’ve been working on a bespoke jewelry collection for a while now. I can’t say too much more about it but I will be announcing my brand mid next year which is very exciting.
6. Any message to your fans in India?
BH: I CANNOT WAIT TO VISIT YOU!!! I’ve been wanting to go to India my entire life, so hopefully, I will have a good reason to come over and spend some time there very soon.
