My 2020 New Year’s Eve was about real and pure Techno. Somehow, I ended up in the German city of Essen (and the right one!) after I’ve made a mistake on my navigation system and arrived to the wrong Essen in Belgium, thankfully was still early. The city wasn’t quiet that day, and we know how German people can be lit during the festivities of new year eve. I arrived few minutes before the famous 00:00 of the new year. There were happy people throwing fireworks everywhere. So I enjoyed their traditions for less than an hour, because had to get ready for my tradition! And mine was the new year Techno rave.

I’d heard about the club few weeks before. It’s called Goethebunker, and my favorite Techno artist is one of the residents of the club, that’s why I thought that it would be the right time to explore its darkness. I was really happy when he announced to me that I was put on the guest list. The price wasn’t that expensive compared to many other events happening in the region though. (12€)

Then got into the Bunker, which is a kind of a cave club, by the street Goethestraße dedicated to one of the biggest Germans poets “Johann Wolfgang von Goethe”, where I attended a real electronic poetry! Then thought about when the old and the modern arts meet. Yes indeed, Goethebunker was about Techno art, Techno culture and Techno people. As soon as I got inside, felt that family atmosphere. My heart got warm immediately inside the darkness of the bunker. The techno was as dark as Goethe described it! « Do we need light to see? The black experience of a man in a perfectly dark cave is a representation of an absence of light, not an absence of representation».

In the club there are 2 rooms, not a lot of light and the walls remind one a bunker or a cave. The drinks are really cheap compare to many other clubs in Europe. 2€ for water and beer.

My favorite Dj Amotik performed more than 3 hours after I’ve arrived, a pure darkness in the darkest and loveliest cave of Essen. It was pure and perfect as expected! The people dancing and sharing love everywhere! I couldn’t find a better place for my NYE where only love and positive vibes were shared! Then the rave ended and people hugged, kissed and we went to our new year adventure! Hope 2020 gonna be fabulous for everybody!
