We at EDMLI are really lucky to have a duo like Teamworx answer some of our questions which we’ve been dying to know about. The boys were really kind enough to provide us with some really interesting information, like their role models, a dig at their stunning sound, some future dream collabs, and more.

We hope you enjoy the interview!

Hey guys, firstly we would like to congratulate you on the new release ‘Just Like That’ with Umut Ozsoy on Protocol Recordings!  It’s such an amazing tune and also a little different than the classic Teamworx sound, could you tell us how the track came to life?

About ‘Just Like That‘, we flew to Cyprus to perform there and we have met a local DJ which was the resident of that club and became a close friend of us. We have exchanged ideas until Umut sent us a very rough idea he made, and we really fell in love with the whole vibe and had the perfect vision for it. We wanted to keep the ‘house’ vibe but we wanted to create a drop which combines our energy but also fits the style of what’s trending in the music industry today. We worked on this idea for months until it later became ‘Just Like That’.

So over the years, we have seen so many of your releases on Protocol Recordings. We would like to know which track do you guys think was very interesting to work on?

The track that in our eyes was interesting to work on was ‘Make The Crowd Go‘ which was our debut track on Protocol Recordings, there was a lot of good drama around this record. It came out as a track under Miami Sampler of Protocol back in 2016 and following a massive success in Miami Music Week with live plays of almost every headliner there, Protocol called us 2 weeks later and said “Hey guys! This is a track that needs to be re-released as a single, make us a vocal version within a week!” – and the rest is history.

Also, you guys have even collaborated a couple of times with the label boss himself, Mr. Nicky Romero, what was that experience like?

We’ve joined forces with Nicky Romero for the third time. The experience working with Nicky is always prolific and very professional. Nicky’s ideas always come in the perfect spot and add a lot to the track, the final mix and master with him reach a very high level and there’s always room to learn when it comes to the mastering of the records.

On the topic of collaborations, you guys have worked with so many artists in the past years. Could you name a couple of artists that are on top of your lists to work with in the future?

Of course, there’s a list of artists we would be honored to collaborate with such as Axwell, Knife Party, David Guetta, and Sofi Tukker.

Let’s go back in time to the very beginning. Could you tell us which artists made an impact or activated the spark that led us to the Teamworx project?

At the early stage of our career we found ourselves sitting in the PC and watching inspiring sets like Steve Angello, David Guetta and Swedish House Mafia. Steve Angello always moved us that time and we really connected to his vibe, music and Size Records. This is what we’ve decided to make music in similar style, we liked the message that he brought to the music industry along with the Swedes. So this definitely inspired us and made a huge impact for us as an aspiring artists back then. Another big milestone for us is when we released ‘Never Stop‘ on SIZE Records which was a big closing circle for us.

Speaking about the Teamworx sound, where do you get inspiration to make such percussive/plucky mid-basses for your drops? How do you make sure your drops are fit to play at Clubs/Festivals?

About the inspiration we have for the bass and percussions we create. We really connect to the psytrance music which is going strong in our country aswell, this is where we brought our fast notes on the bass and the rolling percussions. For the second question, we’ve been DJs all our lives, actually, we started as DJs and afterwards we came to the production world. This is the reason we always know from a very young age what the crowd likes and wants, and what works on the dancefloor. A part of that we always listen to records that became a success and try to ‘analyze’ what’s the reason it works very well on the dancefloor and try to get inspiration for our own music.

How has working as a duo in the studio helped you guys? How is it to share and combine your ideas collectively to form such powerful tracks?

We think there’s a very fruitful and productive to work as a duo, for example when Saar plays melodies in loops without stopping, I (Ben) know when to stop him on the right melody and it vice versa, it applies for every production. Other than that, each one of us comes from a whole musical world so the combination between us bring the best out of each other and the best ideas for our tracks and give them the ‘X Factory’ we’re looking in each track and track.

How are you guys coping up with the COVID-19 situation & would you like to give some tips to the upcoming producers on how they can spend their precious time improving their music in this lockdown period?

We won’t lie, this is a very complicated situation for all of us. There was a big tour in Asia which was scheduled for Feb/March/April which got delayed due to the Covid-19. But with all the complexity and difficulty of the situation we took our time to get in the studio and use all that time that we have right now and prepare the summer full of music. We really encourage everyone to use this time and learn as much as they can and be prepared for the day after the corona, as the wise sentence say – “Make a lemonade out of the lemon”.

Also, check out Teamworx‘s latest release together with Mr. Sid and George Z called ‘Techno‘ which has received an awesome edit from the one and only Mr. Nicky Romero! The track also marks the 200th release on Protocol Recordings which is a really big accomplishment for Nicky, his fellow artists, and his entire team. Congrats to Protocol Recordings for delivering such quality tunes over the years.
