The issue of gender imbalance in the EDM industry is something that has not highlighted to a great extent although many major acts have voiced their opinions against this issue previously. Now, Bud Light Canada is all to premiere a documentary titled ‘Underplayed’ which explores the gender inequality prevalent in the current electronic music industry scenario. Whenever you check out any EDM Festival’s lineup, the recent DJ Mag Poll’s result you come to the conclusion that EDM industry has become quite an exclusive club for the boys. In the EDM industry predominantly run by men, we all are well aware of the sexist challenges women face in the spotlight.
‘Underplayed’ made by film director Stacey Lee features major EDM acts such as Anna Lunoe, Alison Wonderland, REZZ, NERVO, TOKiMONSTA & more who share their perspective on being a woman in the music world. The documentary title ‘Underplayed’ is indeed an apt title that throws light on the issue of under-representation. This documentary will certainly raise awareness, thus creating a better future for women in the EDM industry.
The world of electronic music was created to promote diversity and inclusion, yet, in 2019, only 5 of the world's top 100 DJs were women.
