The legendary music duo Daft Punk have decided to part ways after 28 years. The news comes to us from their longtime publicist Kathryn Frazier. And to further confirm the news, the duo released an eight-minute video titled ‘Epilouge‘ from their 2006 film Electroma. But, the reason for this split is still a mystery that has left all their fans thinking.

Paving the way for the modern dance music scene, the duo has come a long way since the formation of Daft Punk in 1993. The Paris-based musicians Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter are two of the biggest artists to successfully introduce the world to electronic music.

Their debut album ‘Homework‘ from 1993, featuring Billboard chart-topping tracks like ‘Around The World‘ and ‘Da Funk‘ gave them global recognition along with their first Grammy nomination. By the time their second album ‘Discovery‘ was released in 2001, the duo had already started making public appearances in their trademark robot outfits. Tracks from this album such as ‘One More Time‘ and ‘Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger‘ made them superstars in the dance music industry. Continuing this momentum, the duo released their third album ‘Human After All‘ in 2005, a live LP ‘Alive‘ in 2007, and a soundtrack album for ‘Tron: Legacy‘ in 2010.

But little did we know that Daft Punk was just getting started. Their biggest achievement came in 2014 winning the Grammy for the best album of the year with ‘Random Access Memories‘. The duo won four awards including a record of the year for their collaboration with Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers on the hit single ‘Get Lucky‘. Daft Punk made history that night by becoming the first electronic act to win the highest honor at the Grammys.

With such a rich history of releases and a great legacy, Daft Punk are one of the biggest pioneers in the dance music scene. Their music inspired thousands of young producers and musicians who found their calling by listening and analyzing the duo’s innovative and memorable sounds. Fans and the entire music community are surely saddened by this split. All we can do is wish them the very best for their future projects and thank them for the wonderful music that they’ve created for us over these years.
