A highly respected Italian Trance music producer and DJ who is not only known for his energetic live performances and melodic productions but also his work on his “Live Act Shows” have made him a standout in the trance scene.
We got chance to chat with him in person just before his set at A State of Trance 2025 in Rottterdam.
Hello Giuseppe, how are you doing and how its going ?
Good. We started with bang this year with new project called Ottagon, which I launched in November and we are releasing track by track now till we release the album, around May, I think. So, yeah it’s great feedback, new music with a wide range of variety, I’m really excited and really enjoying it.
Let’s talk a bit more on Ottagon, like how exactly this idea originated ?
I’ve always been playing live, and the main reason is that it allows me to be more flexible and to play a lot of different things. I went into a lot of different genres during my break for the pandemic and I discovered a lot of great music that I didn’t have time before but, you can’t play it live. I discussed it with my team about the need to bring the live act back at some point and we went for something bigger. That’s why I have eight keyboards. We required some cool idea to come up, let’s bring few keyboards on the stage. How many? Eight and we designed this octagon (Ottagon). But we call it OTTAGON because Ottaviani, kind of a gimmick but that’s the idea.
In one of your recent posts, you are showing your keyboard setup by mentioning, this is my studio. It looks big, but it’s not big at all.
It’s not big at all. Maybe just half of this room with a lot of stuff in the studio and when you’re filming via phone, you have the wide lens cameras – Everything looks bigger.
We still remember your Live ID Slow Emotion, can we have something like that in Ottagon?
Oh man, Yeah that’s actually a great idea. I need to bring the slow emotion track back. It starts slowly, builds up tempo, goes up and explodes. I need to make a slow motion five. That’s a great idea.
These days mostly Trance producers are mostly influenced by techno sounds. What’s your take on this?
Nothing wrong with that. I love to experiment with different sounds, the most important thing for me is the melody and right now I can hear great melodies in Techno music, melodic techno, progressive house everywhere. So it doesn’t really bother me what you call the genre, I just like to bring all those different elements and put them together in something different because I like the music to evolve every time.
These days everyone has memory of 30 seconds, credits to TikTok and Instagram reels. So how exactly production has changed with this 30 seconds time frame?
It’s not about 30 seconds in general but just the production, it’s very short now and every track sounds like a radio edit. Take as an example the movies, If you watch a movie from the 80’s, it’s very slow, all the cutting, images, and all the scenes are moving very slow. If you look at a movie now, everything happens quickly because people are so addicted to social media that they want to just swipe up quickly wanting for something more. Same goes with music, I see if I play a full extended 5-6 minutes long track, people get bored. They want to go into the next break, into the next drop. So my production has been cut down from eight minutes to 4-5 minutes close to a radio edit. It is basically a radio edit with a little bit of mixing for the future. But honestly I like it because I think it works better, mixes better and is more exciting..
So, with Ottagon, you will not be doing so many shows, did we hear right?
We are very selective. It’s not for clubs but only for big festivals with a big stage and production. We also worked a lot on the visuals. So we need some big LED walls to show the visuals and we want to limit the number of shows to 8 for now because 8 keyboards, 8 shows – Ottagon.
Does Giuseppe have another side? Mostly your productions are towards higher BPMs, anything downtempo ?
It’s going towards what we call the Main Stage sound. So, higher BPMs, more harder key drums, which leads to more high energy. Whilst the Ottagon sound goes more into progressives. But Ottagon, it’s not pretending to be a melodic techno act, something in between Trance and Melodic Techno.
