Team EDMLI had a chance to have a word with the former Anjuna duo, so here we go..

Q : We know this might have been asked to you many times but what made you guys collaborate despite of having individual careers as solo artists ?

Super8 & tab : It all started one Summer day when we decided to go to the studio and try to do something together because we both were releasing tracks on the same label, Anjunabeats, and worked next door to each other in the same studio building. We did First Aid and then we thought there’s something going on, we need to do another one, and then we did “Helsinki Scorchin” and that really changed everything for us. It was so much fun and something new happened.

Q : You have been like the trend setter with tracks like First Aid, Helsinki Scorchin, Mega, Clairvoyant, Why are you so keen to experiment ?

Super8 & Tab :  It’s because we like to keep it fresh in the studio and for our fans rather than to just copy / paste everything from an old project. You should be keen on evolving yourself, whenever we sit down in the studio we always start fresh rather than taking inspiration from an old track of ours. Unfortunately so many talented artists sound the same over and over again. We totally understand it’s good to have some level of continuity, but sometimes it’s just too much. We can stick more to one sound, but it wouldn’t be that much fun!

Q : Where did the name ‘Unified’ come for your last album?

Super8 & Tab : The name stems from the feeling of being united with the people around us. We were lucky to be able to collaborate with our favorite artists on this album,  the feeling of being unified wherever you are in the world is really important. Thus, our aim and true passion is to be able to get people together and experience a common feeling of being united while listening to our music. No matter who you are and where you are, we want to make you unified.

Q : Which is more close to your heart Empire or Unified ?

Super8 & Tab : Ahhh, That a very tricky question, Empire was like our first baby, our first love which is very close to our heart but in terms of music it has to be Unified. In our album unified we have experimented with our sound, the album shows how we have evolved ourselves over the years, how over sound has grown. So yeah we go with Unified.

Q : Why you moved from Anjunabeats to Armada ?

Super8 & Tab : Well, we have been associated with Anjunabeats like all through our life almost from the starting of the record label and we have a lot of respect for above & beyond but we thought it was the right time to explore the sound of Super8 & Tab, to take it to new horizons where we can make new sounds and facilitate our fans. Armada as a label gives you a lot of scope to experiment with your sound though still been connected to the trance roots. It was a tough decision for us but yes we finally decided to take this step.

Q : Can we expect a third album ?

Super8 & Tab : Nahh, we don’t see it happening soon. may be not for the next 2-3 years, it takes a lot of hard work and concentration to come up with an album and we don’t want to rush up with the things, Our last album “unified” took like 2 years to complete, so right now we are happy to release singles.

Q: Any new music coming up ?

Super8 & Tab : We have this new track Nino which will be releasing this week ( released on 24th September on Armind) and yes we have some other 2-3 tracks which you can say are still in raw state and we will be finishing them once we reach back home.

Q: How did you manage touring, music production with your personal life and health ?

Super8 & Tab : This is all thanks to our wives, they have been very strict with us lately not allowing to tour more than 3 weeks at a stretch previously we used to like on really long tours but it’s a strict no now. Haha, they are the once who keep on inspiring us.

Q: Is Trance making a comeback ?

Super8 & Tab : Music is like life, it takes a full circle infact everything repeats itself what goes comes around again, same is with trance. It is definitely making a comeback not like the 90’s but yes it is for sure. Infact i think these days Trance, Techno and Dubstep are all over the world. For instant, Dubstep as a genre saw a very lean period but now it has made a huge comeback.

Q : What is the largest show you have ever played?

Super8 & Tab : We once played at Love Parade in Berlin, Germany and the estimated number of people who attended was over 1.2 million people! We have also played a few times at EDC Las Vegas, which is also a massive event.

We head to a quick rapid fire round,

  1. Festival or clubs :  Both.
  2. Empire or Unified : Empire.
  3. Tiesto or Armin : Armin.

4 . Money or Music : Music.

  1. 128 or 138 : 138 Anyday.

Fav Armin Track : Communication.
