Levente Márton surely better known as Sunny Lax is a Hungarian Trance/Progressive House DJ/Producer/Sound designer. He was born on the 6th of August 1986. As a young thirteen year old Levente was a keen enthusiast when it came to making electronic music, and it was only a matter of time before the hobby that was became a full time profession. Soon he had gained all the experience necessary when it came to employing the latest production techniques, something he is now famed for. His hard work turned fruitful when he was seventeen as he entered for two major Hungarian remix competitions and as a result Sunny Lax the artist was born on the progressional circuit through the publishing of these mixes.
Sunny Lax, also an Anjuna mainstay, has produced a plethora of material on the label, including “Enceladus (2015),” “Daenerys (2014),” “Karma (2014),” “Contrast (2012),” and “Isla Margarita (2012),” including many others. He has continued to work with key labels such as Anjunabeats, Mondo, AVA Recordings and Deep Blue. At the same time he has continued to remix for all the biggest labels, and for leading artists in the scene such Above & Beyond, Super8 & Tab, Darren Tate, Lange, Daniel Kandi and Nitrous Oxide.
Recently he played a massive b2b set with none other than Genix at the VH1 Supersonic. We got a chance to chat with Levente.
1) How did you come up with the name Sunny Lax?
I was dreaming about the days when I’ll be famous, I’ll travel through the sunny LAX airport a lot. I was young and stupid. 🙂 Still better artist name than Chainsmokers though.
2) Your B2B with Genix is quite popular now. How did you think you should do a B2B frequently?
We are both Anjunabeats artists, so we have something common in our songs, we can say it’s the Anjuna-vibe, but we still have our own styles. Damo’s tracks are mostly in the most powerful and banging tracks on the label if you ask me. Mine are sometimes a bit more progressive and melodic. It’s hard to analyze, but it works perfectly together, our styles complete each other pretty good and make a nice journey on the gigs.
3) Do you guys have any plans of forming a Duo like New World Punx?
I think we both would you like to keep our own projects in foreground, the B2B and the collab track sare something plus, something special what we really like to do. We could have find a name for it, but we didn’t feel it necessary.
4) You have released so many singles and done loads of remixes but why not an album of your own?
Most of people don’t know the fact that I had a daytime job until last year when Ileft it, because music became my profession slowly in the past decade. It was incredible hard sometimes to manage my time to be able to work on musical things. To make an album is a big challenge for an artist, cause it’s not just a compilation of tunes. A good artist album is like an audio essence of the artist’s soul, which shows different states and aspects of the artist. And this is on my list for years, and that’s what I would like to do in the next couple of years. I just need to find that 6 months where I could move aside from the world and create some art. It’s about time. I’m definitely on it.
5) When your track is played by Above & Beyond at big venues like ABGT 150 and 200, how do you feel? Do you produce keeping in mind that it will be played at bigger venues, or what is the thought process?
To see my track debuting in front of thousands of people, while my idols put „Thank you SunnyLax” to the big screen is one of the best feelings, especially if I’m there personally. Just thinking to it sends shivers down my spine. Some say Life is made of small moments like these…” 🙂 And yes, sometimes when I’m working on tracks I’m trying to imagine how is gonna be like on a big event. But most of the times it’s not so conscious and it can’t be planned what do you want to hear on a big ABGT event, cause the guys are selecting the tracks until last minute literally. I’m lucky enough they liked my music so much that my tracks were there in the last few shows.
6) From where do you get the inspiration of creating a completely different track every single time?
Anything can inspire, good mood, bad mood, a smile, a teardrop, a smell of a flower, a kiss of my wife. So many small wonderful things happen to us everyday, sometimes we don’t even recognize em. When I’m sitting at the piano I’m trying to set myself into a mood when I feel like it’snot me who creates the melodies, I just give my hands to someone who controls me. I was always afraid it will be gone one day, and I’ll run out of ideas, but now I feel it’s gonna work forever.
7) How has Anjunabeats nurtured you till date in terms of support?
They support me as much as-possible. Everything depends on me and my music. In the past decade I wasn’t so consistent cause I wasn’t professional, I was just a guy who made some tracks sometimes. But the last couple of years was a big break-through in my career, since I take myself more seriously. Started touring, delivering releases more consistent and Anjunabeats is supporting me even more now which is amazing and I’m really thankful for that.
8) What do you have in store for us in 2017?
Just finished a couple of remixes for big names in the scene, can’t wait to reveal these. Also there is a plan for the next Lax release which will be probably a 3 tracks instrumental EP. And working on some vocal collaborations too for the next half of the year. But can’t tell more yet.
9) Any special message for all the Indian fans out here?
I was amazed how much you loved our music in Pune, You are definitely one of the best crowds Iever played to. Keep up trancing! Can’t wait to meet you all again as soon as possible! 🙂
