We got the amazing opportunity to get up close with Quix & Wuki during their Quix B2B Wuki India tour brought to you by Phoenix Live.

This was a rare B2B set with QUIX & Wuki completely nailing it with back to back trap bangers.

EDMLI: How has your flight been ?

Quix: Me and my wife flew from L.A. It was a long flight.

Wuki: We flew a long way. Pretty excited for the show today.

EDMLI: Do you think the Bass scene in India is evolving with such a wide array of artists that have toured India soon with the likes of Slander, Ghastly , Getter, Slushii to name a few and now to end the year we have this rare B2B of the most diverse and rising producers Quix & Wuki. We’d like to thank Phoenix Live for making this tour possible. What are your views about the rising bass scene in India ? What are your expectations from the Indian crowd right now and are currently in the Indian bass scene ?

Quix: Not in depth like within specific groups or in talk with specific people. But I’ve had people reach out to me and tell me how excited they are for my shows. So not like in depth but i can feel It’s gonna be crazy. If we would’ve come a year ago probably wouldn’t have been as crazy as it is right now.

Wuki: It seems like everything is just buzzing in India. So it’s  It feels just like the right time to come to India right now. We’re really lucky to be here.

EDMLI: Tell us a bit about your initial entrance into Dance Music? What was it that attracted you to this kind of production ?

Wuki: I’ve been into Dance music for a long time. I mean i guess when i first really got into it. I got turned on to Daft Punk, Chemical Brothers like the Legends. JUSTICE really really got me into wanting to make dance music and then the whole Dubstep thing happened and then all the cool sounds came out. I just kind of like snowballed from there and you learn all the sound design stuff. it’s just a whole world there. Once you get in it’s really hard to get out.

EDMLI: Can we expect a collab with both of you’ll ? It’ll be hype for sure because of the diverse production capabilities that you’ll possess ?

Quix: I reckon so, Me and Kris have recently like become really good friends and that’s why i wanna work with him. I’m not so into like random collab that’s not me. I mean starting out that was me I was trying to pursue myself and push myself. I definitely think we can expect a collab. We both live quite close in L.A.

Wuki: Yeah i reckon on so. Not on this tour probably, cause it’s quite hectic on this tour. Once i get back to L.A.

EDMLI: Quix, you have an Unreleased track with ‘NGHTMRE’ and it sounds tight. When can we expect it to drop ?

Quix: Yeah i mean we’ve worked together. It’s not something you can say that we’re gonna collab, cause you know like we know each other. It’s a building process of you know like building a wall brick by brick. Building your friendship and then outta that we’ll come like ‘Let’s  Jump in the studio’, Let’s just make songs cause we like writing music. ‘Let’s just make a collab that’ll blow the internet off ‘

Wuki: Haha, That’s a really good answer!!

EDMLI: What are some of your landmark releases that were turning points in your career?

Wuki: They’re a couple, I had a remix for RL Grime that came out 2 years ago and this really like popped my name in America and all other places.Recently, DADADA that just blew me off.

EDMLI: Boasting a unique trap sound full of 808’s and wonky samples & sound design, QUIX has a style that can’t be matched, although many have tried. Do you think you possess that unique sound now and can we expect an Album soon ?

Quix: Yeah i think people have tried to replicate it, but they’re in their own way though. I feel like some people have like directly copied it. The other thing is that sometimes I don’t even feel like i created a sound I was just in my room making songs and i thought like Look this sounds cool! Why not just like use this. People have definitely tried to recreate it, No one else can be QUIX but everyone else can be Themselves.

An album! I haven’t really like thought about it, that’s a big move. I wanna make that move when my people are like really anticipating like a big move from me. You know like i should’ve done a couple of years of touring and that’s when I’ll be like  Alright! I’m gonna chill out from touring and like work on an Album. Not just put Music out for the sake of it but I actually wanna put a piece of me into an Album and release it. I’ll be doing an album like say probably in the next 3 years or so, just because it’s like expected.

It’s a considerable amount of time,  I was just on phone with ‘What So Not’ he just finished his whole album and he has spent this whole year doing it. He barely had a social life, barely went out and have fun. He was working on the album every single day almost bashing it out in the studio and now it’s finished. I was really lucky to hear it and it’s crazy, it’s soo good.

Wuki: I’d love to, it needs to be like a statement and have an evident flow to it and not just all banger banger. It has to be conceptually rich.

EDMLI: You’ve definitely nailed down a recognizable “Wuki” sound. Was there a certain moment when you felt like this really clicked?

Wuki: Umm, I mean honestly No, like i think i mean as a producer. It’s all just been me and there’s been this really slow progress and I’m not sure if there’s one moment when it really clicked. It’s kind of just like building something one brick at a time and then all of a sudden you have a house.

EDMLI: QUIX, you’ve had quite a year, with releases with Ian Munro, Young Sidechain & Gucci Mane which was hard hitting, with the Heaps Cool EP on Dim Mak, the track Four Letter Lie is one of the best off the EP, How did you go about creating the song ?

Quix: That song was made in one week. It was made for the EP, we needed a statement track on the  EP. I literally worked my ass off a whole week barely having any sleep through out it. Working in the Dim Mak studio to make that song happen. The girl who sings on it her name is Sophie Rose, and she killed that song. She had the vocals done already and I was able to put it on to like a semi beat that i had before and then I just wrote to it. It was a crazy process, the EP was out due at one time and then a week before that i started this track. It really like forced me to like okay we need to write something big and put a lot of pressure on me and pushed myself harder.

EDMLI: Kris ,you’ve been releasing most of your latest releases on “WukiLeaks” ? What’s the thing behind doing that ? “DADADA” was one of the most iconic releases, Can you explain the creative process behind creating a trap banger like this ? Also the collab with KAYZO was just off the roof.

Wuki: So yeah WukiLeaks i just kind of always liked the Bootleg / Soundcloud culture and kind of like kids just like doing whatever they want, taking any song and flipping it. It’s kind of like a challenge to me.  I like the idea of not having to deal with Labels and just giving it out. There’s something beautiful about making something and putting it out.

It took me around four hours probably to make ‘DADADA’. It’s like you just have the idea and sometimes it just comes out. I’m more just like a vessel of the Idea like i didn’t come up with it, It came to me. Talking about the collab with KAYZO, It’s a really simple idea I had at first and I remember Sending it out to a couple of people to see if they wanted to collab and KAYZO was like ‘Let’s Do It’, so i just did it real quick. He made like a really cool Dubstep drop for the second part. We were thinking of putting it out on the Label and stuff. I mean we were like ‘Why don’t just put it out for Free ? ‘. He had a lot of stuff coming out so it just made more sense to do it right now and just put it out.

EDMLI: How do you like to unwind when you’re not making / listening to music ? What do you for fun ?

Wuki: I like to hang out with friends. I’m pretty much into TV Shows like Stranger Things, Rick & Morty. I’m a pretty normal dude just like to hang out have fun.

Quix: Jeez man I feel like this year has been like a giant show. I have like 120 shows this year, i mean i feel like i don’t have anything else to do apart from being at Airports and Airplanes. Memes haha! I don’t create them but I’m like a digger . I dig for Memes. I love enjoying food and the company of my friends. It’s always a good time when i have company around. When i go back to to New Zealand , I might go back and mow some lawns. I mean that’s what i used to do. I might go back and do a dew days for my Old boss and tell him ‘Remember the Old Days ?’

EDMLI: Your new track “Riot Call” is guaranteed to start a riot at any show. What inspired the track and what was your favorite part about working with Nevve? Were there any challenges to making the track sound so massive ?

Quix: I Started this around two and a half years ago. I  had the idea for so long and I sent it to my old managers they were like ‘Woah! This is Crazy Dude, The drop is sick and it’s so unheard of’. But i didn’t really click with the song i didn’t think it was like a banger banger. I didn’t really think it was cool so i kind of like left it for about 2 years until we were gonna sign with Dim Mak and then they heard it and were like It’s really good but it needs a Topline and somebody to sing on it.

We met a few vocalists and then we finally found Nevve. Her vocal was literally just like the Jigsaw puzzle that fits right into the picture and so it worked perfectly. I worked more of the tracks where i wrote more of the track to suit her voice.  It was one my first time working with a label so i had been telling myself ‘Okay this is really good but I just need to change this part, take this note higher’ so i was working very closely with it. It was a fun experience and i was happy to finally put it out.

EDMLI: What artists/producers are inspiring you the most right now?  Do you have any favorite up and coming producers that we should check out ?

Wuki: There’s this dude ‘Hekler’ , he’s really sick his sound design is pretty awesome. He’s more like a Trap dude.  I like almost everything that comes out on Tchami’s label ‘Confession’ not necessarily any artist but that whole sound is really really good.

Quix: There’s this dude called ‘Carbin’ he’s so underrated . He’s got a weird crazy sound that more people should know about .
