Ed Sheeran in India was definitely the most looked forward to event of this year. The expectations were high from the fans in general from this one. There were chances of this gig being cancelled with Ed being involved in an accident a couple of months ago. Perhaps this was in the destiny of everyone who paid to witness the magician. With half of the Asia tour being postponed, we were lucky we didn’t have to wait until 2018 for this. The management was also perfect. With the performances set to commence at 7 PM, gates opened as early as 5 PM. This avoided any kind of traffic or big lines outside the venue.

Lauv kicked off his performance at 7 PM. He set the tune and warmed the crowd up perfectly. The crowd went beserk when he dropped his collaboration with DJ Snake ‘A different way’ & his popular track ‘I like me better’. Then came the moment we all were waiting for. Ed Sheeran took to the stage at 8 PM and appeared in a beautifully designed Blue Kurta. The Kurta had a divide sign (÷) signifying his new album which was designed by Farzana Cama Balpande of BookASmile. The sign had ‘डिवाइड’ written in our Devnagri script. Ed kicked off his 90 odd minute performance with one of the tracks from the album, Castle on the hill. He got the crowd going immediately. Apart from working his magic with his performance, he also cracked a couple of jokes in between to make sure he entertained the crowd. About an hour into his performance he announced he is going to perform the last song of the night and performed his single ‘Sing’.
The crowd then got confused as who why he hadn’t performed the show stopping track ‘Shape Of You’. Ed disappeared backstage after performing Sing and the crowd got restless for a couple of minutes. But the night certainly wasn’t supposed to be over yet, he returned having changed into wearing an Indian cricket jersey, he came back to perform the show stopping track. The entire crowd was singing along. Everyone present there knew the lyrics for sure. Ed then finished off the night by ‘You need me, I don’t need you.’ A wise man once said, ‘Everything that has a beginning, has an end.’ This spectacular night had to end too. But not before giving us an unforgettable experience. We would like to thank both the artists and the organizers for such an amazing evening. We certainly hope there’s more in store for the future.
