With a slew of distinguished accolades under his belt, Notaker has positioned himself as an influential producer in the electronic music realm. Back in 2016, David Nothaker better known by his stage name Notaker-dropped his major hit tune called “Infinite” on the independent electronic music giant Monstercat. Later on, he continued making waves in the scene with releases such as “Gems” and “Shimmer” on the label, “Born in the Flames” on Armada Music and “Abyss” on mau5trap.

Notaker’s distinct style of dance music, characterized both by his strong sound design and his devotion to imbuing his compositions with heavy narrative elements, helps him create songs that wholly immerse fans into his unique universe. Aside from his immaculate productions, Notaker emphasizes creating art that has depth beyond just the song itself, whether, in the form of strong artwork, live visuals, or music videos, his music always tells a multi-faceted story. He recently dropped a huge progressive tune ‘From Dust & Ashes’ marking a return to his progressive roots.

We got an amazing opportunity to have a chat with the super talented act, check it out:

1. You recently dropped a euphoric tune “From Dust & Ashes” marking your return to your progressive roots, how did it come about? Did you get an opportunity to play at any of your shows?

David: Like any track, I’ve made it all started with the itch to just create something, this time around I decided to revisit the more class progressive style and see what ensued. After I wrote the song I shelved it for about a year until recently when I shared it with the Monstercat guys and they loved it, so we ended up putting it out there.

2. 2019 saw your festival debut at Das Energi Festival, how was your debut performance at a festival? were you nervous?

David: It was great! Salt Lake City is an amazing place scenic-wise and people-wise. I wasn’t too nervous, more excited to get to play really.

3. Is there any special reason that you focus on strong artwork, live visuals for your music videos and performances?

David: I think I focus on those things because they’re what made a strong impact on me when listening to other artists’ music. The ability to tell more of a story with your music gives just another layer of enjoyment to the listener.

4. What was the breakthrough moment/tune for you after putting out some amazing releases?

David: I think the breakthrough record for me has always been ‘Infinite’. Lot’s on things just clicked for me creatively with that song and helped me discover what my sound could potentially be.

5. As you are a self-taught producer, what are the key things in the whole process of learning to create your own sound design?

David: I think it’s important to remember that learning is the only constant in music. You always want to be constantly changing what you do and how you write music. Without that, you’ll end up writing the same things over and over again.

6. You’re on a roll on the Monstercat label with previous releases on it such as the EP which came out earlier, your “Tell Me” remix, what can we expect in the future?

David: The future is very open, I don’t really want to dive in too much but plans are brewing for the next release(s).

7. So coming up next in December will be your debut NYC show at the world-renowned venue, Avant Gardner alongside your mau5trap labelmate BlackGummy, what special things are you put in for this show?

David: Definitely going to use this show as an opportunity to test out some new music, always a great time to see if a record pops with a packed dance floor.

8. Thank you for sparing time for this interview! Any special message to your fans here in India?

David: Absolutely, Thanks for having me. Thank you to all my fans in India, I hope I’ll be able to make it out there for a show soon!

Make sure you follow him and keep an eye on him as he dominates the scene!
