We got an amazing opportunity to chat with her, check it out!
1. Hello Taylor, you recently dropped the Demons Dancing EP following the earlier release of your conceptual EP ‘Heartbreak House’. What is this EP all about, can you elaborate a bit?
W: I wanted this EP to be the perfect soundtrack for a girl’s night out. While Heartbreak House was all about me getting thru my breakup, Demons Dancing is about exploring what is out there and being free and single. Sonically, I wanted it to be darker and deeper which is why it has a lot of tech and bass house elements.
2. 2019 saw you performing at a number of major festivals including Burning Man, EDC LV & more. How do you prepare for your sets?
W: I’ve always practiced how I perform! I run my sets at my studios with my visuals and lights going so that I can prep for any situation that may happen when I am playing. I think I got this from my musical theatre dress rehearsal days but I will even practice at the same time as my set in my outfit to make sure I am ready for anything!
3. As far as I know, you got into DJing at a very young age of 16, what was that moment which propelled you to get into full-time DJing? How was the electronic music scene back then in the Bay Area & LA?
W: At the time I was there, the Bay Area had a really amazing underground live music scene. There was a great radio station there called Live 105 that made a point to put on emerging artists and feature them at locally sponsored shows. Because of this, I was introduced to so many new bands and artists that still influence me to this day. That being said, LA has a stronger club scene in my opinion which I why I made the move there for my career. When I was coming up in the DJ scene there, I was going out to shows like DJ AM’s Banana Split Sundays and Steve Aoki’s Dim Mak Tuesdays. It was at these shows that I made insane and lifelong connections with people in the industry.
4. What are the goals you want to accomplish with your 40oz Cult label?
W: I want to keep expanding the label and adding to our CULT fam. I would not be where I am without the support of some of the amazing labels I released on and that’s what I hope to do with 40oz Cult. In 2019, we had some incredible releases from artists in a wide variety of genres and from all around the world. I just want to keep pushing the envelope and introduce the fans of the label music that is different and ahead of the curve. Dack, Hami, and I also want to continue to travel with our 40oz Cult Takeover show to give ourselves and our fellow artists a platform to grow and perform.
5. How do you make sure that you keep up with good health while doing shows, studio sessions & other stuff?
W: My health is my #1 priority. I try and do everything I can to create longevity in my career. Whether that is drinking a ton of water on and off the road, working out with a trainer, or going on walks or hikes in new cities to get outside and explore! I definitely love junk food so when I’m traveling I make sure to stick to healthy food even though it’s so hard!
6. Anything you want to tell your fans?
W: Thank you for the continued support of my music and 40oz Cult. And for anyone going through heartbreak or a breakup, just know that it does get better and you deserve all the happiness so be patient and focus on yourself!
7.Thanks for taking out some time to speak with us & hope to have you in India soon!
W: Thank you! I was fortunate to travel to India last year and I can’t wait to return!
Make sure you keep an eye on this super-talented DJ/Producer!
