We got an opportunity to chat with him before he comes down to India, check it out!

1. Hello Justin, the year 2018 was certainly a big year for you, can you share the biggest highlights?

A lot has happened. definitely, my debut with Monstercat is one of the biggest milestones of my career. I’ve been waiting on and preparing this new sound and concept and I was really excited when Monstercat was also excited to represent my music. Afterward, to be able to play Timeout in Mumbai at the end of the year was very special because it was a culmination of a year and a half worth of hard work with the music, branding, concept, and visuals. the show came together very nicely and I was really grateful to the Indian fans and people that came to the festival and rocked out! it was definitely one of the best experiences at a festival!

2. You have been releasing a lot of stuff on Monstercat imprint, how will you describe your relationship with the label?

Monstercat is a great family to be a part of. their fans are a little bit more hardcore and they get engaged heavily into the music and artists. Monstercat is the perfect home for me as they allow me to have the creative freedom to try new things and make different styles of music, sometimes fast, sometimes slow, some happy, some sad, energetic, downtempo. They have a great team that supports whatever I wish to do! That’s very encouraging since nowadays people expect the same stuff from you all the time, it gets boring so it’s nice to be able to try new things!

3. Can you tell us the story or the process behind your eclectic tune called “U&ME”?

“U&ME” is a very special track to me. Nowadays there are bangers and everyone is trying to make harder and harder tracks, which is awesome! but sometimes you need the icing on the cake, the finishing touch. “U&ME” is the song I like to close my sets with, its emotional, euphoric, and uplifting. but also, it is a little sad because it feels like goodbye. so I wrote this song to have nostalgic vibes and to have a “see you next time” message to it. this is one of the best songs to close my sets with. it lets everyone celebrate the time together and optimistic for next time.

4. Tell us a bit about your visual show concept “City Of OZ”

I can’t say too much, but it is part of the world building. the visuals are the backdrop and communication device. simply said, it’s U (the crowd and fans) + Me against the outside world. when we party and rave together, this is our crew and movement. The other side doesn’t understand it sometimes, but we do and together I think it makes our scene stronger.

5. How is the electronic music scene in South Korea as compared to the world?

South Korea is always growing and trying to stay ahead of the music scene. especially with tv, movies, and K-pop music. festival wise, there are so many music festivals a year and I’ve been lucky to perform at so many of them. Definitely, probably the biggest of them all is Ultra Korea which has a very strong EDM lineup. However, over the years, we see a less big room and more alternative bass electronic music being popular. its a movement and it is growing! I don’t think we’ll ever see bass music take over the clubs but the underground scene is only getting stronger in Korea!

6. What does Justin OH do when he’s not in the studio or when he’s not touring?

I’m almost always working or thinking about music. iI I’m not, then I’m sleeping or eating. I also love watching movies. it is always very inspirational to see huge projects and works of art come together on the big scene in a cinema. Two of my favorite directors are Denis Villeneuve and David Fincher.

7. You are returning to India after your stunning performance at the Timeout 002 last year, what special things are inbound for your massive 2 city tour?

I love India. It’s always good to be back! this time, I hope to see all the old and new faces at Kitty Su in Mumbai and the Artistry in Hyderabad. The feedback has been amazing and the Justin OH India headbang army is a super strong and full force! I also am excited to play with my buddy NitroFun. he’s flying in from Mexico and it should be an amazing time! we are growing the scene with Monstercat in India and we hope to have a huge family here by the end of 2019!

Rumor has it that Justin is coming up with an entirely new EP, songs of which he will preview at the tour in India.
