Mexican young prodigy Gustavo Rangel who is better known by his stage name NITRO FUN has been making waves in the scene with his unique productions which are a culmination of Chiptune, Ambient Cinematic, Future Bass. He has released top-notch music on imprints such as NEVER SAY DIE, MONSTERCAT to name a few. Being an avid videogame fan he had the idea of using chiptune elements into his tracks. He kept practicing and developing his own sound and 1 year later, at the young age of 15, he won a release competition on Monstercat with his own solo release soon after, becoming the youngest artist signed to the label.

He will be returning to India this weekend for two massive shows, so ahead of his India Tour we got an amazing opportunity to chat with Gustavo!

1. What were your early influences which pushed you to create your eclectic sounds which are a culmination of chiptune, future bass & more?

The biggest inspiration for me has always been Skrillex. I think he opened the path for a lot of aspiring electronic artists like me. Video games have always been a big part of my life since I was a kid so naturally, they evolved into inspiration for me. Also with the chiptune sounds, there is so much to explore and so many variants of sound you can create yourself, it’s just a completely different world in production.

2. Tell us a bit about your recent release called “Time Goes By”.

This song takes inspiration from 2012-2014 complextro which was my favorite genre back when I started producing. For some reason, this genre died out throughout the years so I made this song as a tribute to those memories. It was a release after a long break and I was surprised to see how many of my fans were waiting for a release and were still out there. Felt good to be back and the track received over 2 Million streams quickly.

3. Which is your all-time favorite video game & why?

The one game I keep coming back to after all these years is GTA San Andreas, I’m sure plenty of you love that. But I’m also a huge fan of Pokémon and open worlds like The Witcher, Zelda, Assassins Creed, etc. I’m going to have a gaming faceoff with Justin Oh in India and also some well known ISL Footballers for a FIFA session. I can’t wait for that!

4. Talking about your live show, what efforts do you put into it so that you make sure you deliver an unforgettable experience?

Before every show, I make sure I take a few weeks just to work on it and make sure it’s special and unique. After I signed with my new management, RVR16, we came up with a plan to deliver something beyond just a DJ set. We’re evolving every day and brainstorming new concepts. It takes ALOT of practice to make sure a live set is done to perfection. When I get on stage and play I put my entire soul into the music I’m performing. There’s a lot of production involved in the live instruments I play and the visual design.

5. What’s in pipeline for the year 2019?

Lots of new music. I have a new track set to release this May which I will be premiering at this India tour. We’ve closed on some major festivals this year for our live performance too. I’m also working on exploring more sounds from different cultures to come up with a very unique cross over the sound that I want to have in a few of my new tracks for a future EP.

6. Anything special you have been working on for your upcoming India Tour?

New Music. All of my original releases. And some good enough practice for the live part of my set. I really hope the fans in India like it!
