We were really excited when we heard that Budweiser was bringing its international music property ‘What’s Brewing’ to India for the first time. The concept of showcasing different genres of electronic music at 1 venue spread out over 3 floors and 3 stages had been unheard of in Delhi and had created quite the buzz amongst electronic music enthusiasts.

We were present at the 1st edition of ‘What’s Brewing’ at Hauz Khas Social in Delhi and here’s our gig review!

The Venue:

Budweiser India did an excellent job in picking Hauz Khas Social as the venue for the 1st edition of ‘What’s Brewing’. Each floor at Hauz Khas featured a separate stage equipped with a completely different setup which managed to create an atmosphere that perfectly complimented the genre of electronic music being played.

The Stages – THE GHETTO, THE UNDERGROUND and THE CLUB

Having three separate stages made sure that there was something for every kind of electronic music fan to experience.

The Ghetto presented the New York style of hip hop with performances by Anushka + Agent & Sickflip. The console created the illusion of a pop up boom box.

The Underground took us back to the underground scene in Berlin and featured electronic music – majorly minimal techno played by Paraphoniks, Frame/ Frame, & Blot!

Taking inspiration from Amsterdam style The Club stage focused on progressive and big room sounds from talents including Progressive Brothers, Zaeden B2B Kerano.

The Lineup & The Vibe:Upon reaching the venue, we saw a huge gathering of electronic music fans waiting to get inside. We could hear the final sound checks in progress which took our excitement to another level. The doors finally opened at about 8.30pm to an ecstatic crowd and with special wrist bands being handed out to everyone. What struck us the second we entered Hauz Khas was the grandeur of the Club Stage which almost felt like it was a fortress.

The night was about to showcase 11 outstanding performances under one roof. The line-up featured some of the biggest names in the electronic music space like BLOT, Anushka + Agent, Progressive Brothers, Paraphoniks, Frame/Frame, SICKFLIP, Zaeden & Kerano.
Budweiser India had also conducted a special contest leading up to the event on social media which gave budding talent an opportunity to play a set at the venue before the main acts took center stage. Next up we spent an hour at The Ghetto stage where the beautiful and musical pair of Anushka + Agent drove the crowd crazy with their hip hop sounds. The girls played some popular tunes which made sure that every single soul present at the stage hit the dance floor.

By the time we got ourselves to the Underground Stage, Paraphonics had already got the crowd going with their underground sounds. The boys not only won everyone’s hearts by playing melodious techno tunes but they gave everyone a true taste of live music by getting their hands on a synthesizer and an electric guitar.

The Ghetto stage was then taken over by SICKFLIP who was a sheer marvel from start to finish. However, we quickly moved on to The Club stage as we heard from the crowd that the Progressive Brothers were about to take the deck duties. The brothers played ‘The Chainsmokers’ hit “Closer” & their new single “PUSSY MAGNET” which received a great response from the crowd.

Next up was the performance of the night! Zaeden & Kerano joined hands for a B2B performance. Having performed at sold out gigs all year round, they had no difficulty in feeling the pulse of the crowd and smoothly bringing in heavier tunes taking it up a few notches. They seamlessly blended their signature styles with popular high energy tracks and some of their own creations like Never Let You Go and Here I Stand making sure that the night ended on a perfect high. At the same moment, techno maestro BLOT spread some mesmerizing vibes at the Underground Stage.

What’s Brewing was an experience we won’t forget for quite some time. Budweiser has really set the bar high for electronic music gigs in the country with this property.
P.S. – This has only left us with a larger appetite for similar experiences from Budweiser India and we are really keen on seeing what they have in store for EDC India.
