Ed Sheeran’s latest single, “Sapphire”, is a vibrant cross-cultural collaboration with Indian playback singer Arijit Singh. It was released on June 5, 2025, as part of Sheeran’s much-anticipated album, Play, to be launched on September 12, 2025.
Musical Fusion and Cultural Elements : “Sapphire” sees an exquisite blend of Sheeran’s pop melodies with traditional Indian instrumentation like the sitar and Punjabi style beats. Arijit Singh, in the true legend style, sings a verse in Punjabi, giving the track that box of depth and authenticity. Sheeran has stepped into Punjabi vocals in respect of Indian culture and its music.
Music Video Highlights : The music video of the song was directed by Liam Pethick and shot in different parts of India like Kolkata and Hyderabad. It features Sheeran indulging with local culture, riding auto-rickshaws, playing football with kids, and navigating busy bazaars. Arijit Singh also appears with Sheeran, accentuating the musical interplay between the two. The video packs another joy with a cameo by the Bollywood powerhouse Mr. Shah Rukh Khan, who lip-syncs an excerpt of the chorus.
