After a year’s wait, Anjunadeep’s iconic compilation series returns with its 16th edition, expertly mixed by label co-founder James Grant and Jody Wisternoff. This 42-track journey showcases the best of melodic house and progressive across two distinct CDs.
The opening salvo sets an introspective tone with Kloyd & Fractures’ “Will We Ever Learn” before orbit’s “You” (in a special W&G edit) deepens the emotional pull. Fejká’s “Maara” builds hypnotic tension, while anamē’s “Malibu” brings California sunshine to the deeper sounds. PROFF’s “Memory #3 (Club Mix)” is an early highlight with peak-time progressive perfection that’s both driving and emotional.
The centerpiece is undoubtedly Planet Of Souls & Lily Papas’ “One (UNKLE Reconstruction)” with nearly 8 minutes of soaring vocals and epic builds. Mild Minds’ “Teardrops (Durante Remix)” adds dancefloor edge to melancholy, before Spencer Brown’s “Comeback Kids” closes CD1 perfectly.
CD2 shifts gears with Jody Wisternoff’s “Sweetest Thing (Chill Mix)”, the perfect Sunday morning warmth rather than Saturday night intensity. The standout Nox Vahn & Marsh collaboration “Nemora” showcases two artists defining the modern Anjunadeep sound, ethereal yet grounded and not to forget Dosem’s “Levitize” lives up to its name with floating, gravity-defying production.
The compilation closes with Because of Art’s “Artificial Cloud” which is synthetic yet organic, giving listeners time to reflect on the three-hour journey.
Anjunadeep 16 masterfully balances established artists (Cubicolor, Marsh, Spencer Brown) with exciting debuts (Kloyd, Kiskadee, Martim Rola). From Scandinavian progressive to South American warmth to British precision, what sets this apart is the pacing.
For Anjunafamily veterans, this feels like home and for newcomers, it’s the perfect introduction to nearly two decades of groundbreaking sound.
