Nearly 17 million people went to Amsterdam last year and it is a trend that they believe will only continue to rise each year.In addition to the 5% tax on room prices, he favours adding ‘a couple of euros’ for every visitor using hotels, Airbnb and B&Bs. This will make tourism on a budget relatively more expensive.The plan, which will take effect in 2019, would mean an extra €150m on top of the €80m which now flows into the capital’s coffers from tourist tax every year.Now, local authorities have announced plans to increase the amount of tax paid on rooms in the city centre. Right now it’s at 5 per cent, with that to rise to 6 per cent next year.According to The Guardian, taxes could rise by as much as €10 a night as local authorities in the area are trying to decrease the amount of stag and hen parties and visitors coming to the city for weekends away.
