Todd Helder, the 19 year old rising Music Producer/DJ has really been amazing with his releases and also his signature style with the 8-Bit. The young Dutch has set his mark on the industry after getting enormous support from the #1 DJ in the World, Martin Garrix and after releasing a single called ‘Ride It‘ on Garrix’s STMPD Recordings. He recently made an appearance at Ushuaïa Ibiza for the very first time and in the following weeks played at Tomorrowland at The Brewery Stage. After releasing on massive labels like STMPD Recordings, Trap City, Todd is surely one of the best among the rising DJ/Producers. He recently did an official remix for ‘Ocean‘ by Martin Garrix & Khalid which was indeed impressive!
EDMLI got an opportunity to interview Todd Helder and this was surely a wonderful experience for us.

Check out our exclusive interview of Todd Helder:

1. EDMLI: Firstly, how has it been releasing on Martin Garrix’s label STMPD Recordings? Have you got more plans to release there in the future?

Todd: Martin Garrix has to be the worlds’ best DJ at the moment so to be able to release on his label is such an honour. ‘I Need’ has probably been my favourite release so far, but I’ve got a lot of new and diverse music coming, everything from trap to deep house. I just released my official remix of Martin Garrix’ and Khalid’s ‘Ocean’ and have another track called ‘Smile’ dropping via STMPD on 3rd August.

2. EDMLI: Your 8-Bit style is really amazing! From where did you get the idea to make such music and use such elements in your productions?

Todd: As a producer I like to experiment a lot with different genres. My latest release was a mix between Future Hop, R&B & Kawaii (Kawaii is a Chinese version of future bass with a bit of 8bit sounds).

3. EDMLI: How was it working on ‘Ride It’, did you ever think that it would get supported by the #1 DJ in the world?

Todd: I almost had a heart attack when I found out that Martin Garrix played ‘Ride It’ a few months ago and he’s been playing it ever since! Martin also told me that his visual guy made an 8bit style visual consisting of 10,000 lasers for his shows which is insane!

4. EDMLI: What are your future plans and what’s coming up for the rest of 2018?

Todd: I’m actually currently working on my album so that’s my main goal right now. I’ve been working on it for a while now and it’s grown into something a lot bigger than I thought it would.

5. EDMLI: Are there any artists you would love to collaborate with and who were your main inspirations when you started off with ‘Todd Helder’?

Todd: I’m a big fan of DuaLipa, and Skrillex is very, very high up on my list of people I’d like to work with. I love to work with different artists and genres that aren’t my typical sound because I really enjoy experimenting with different styles. I tend to incorporate a fusion of trap, instrumental hip hop and hints of EDM in my tracks.

6. EDMLI: How was it performing at Ushuaïa Ibiza along with Martin Garrix and the other amazing artists on the line up?

Todd: Ushuaïa Ibiza was the one that really did it for me. The fact that I got to play on the same stage as some of the most iconic musicians of all time was very surreal. It was also one of my favorite sets I’ve ever put together. Ushuaïa’s definitely been my favorite show so far.

7. EDMLI: How was your debut Tomorrowland experience? It’s an incredible achievement to have performed there for your 3rd ever show, did it come with a lot of pressure?

Todd: My Tomorrowland but came just a week after my Ushuaïa debut so it’s all felt like a dream. I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to play at Tomorrowland, I hadn’t ever been to the festival until now so it was an incredible experience all round. Yeah of course it came with a lot of pressure, the DJ’s that play Tomorrowland are some of the best in the world so I had to really step up my game!

8. EDMLI: You just released your remix of Martin Garrix and Khalid’s huge hit ‘Ocean’ on STMPD Recordings, how did the production process differ to your original cuts?

Todd: My remix for ‘Ocean’ was inspired by a STMPD Recordings track called ‘Ride It’ that I released earlier this year, but with a future bass twist. It was a lot of fun to work on such a huge track.
