Not many would have expected a DJ with a bucket on his head to go on to be one of the biggest names in electronic dance music. It is more than just the music, which has contributed to Marshmello becoming a global icon today. The latest episode of YouTube’s Artist Spotlight is aptly titled ‘More Than Music’ as it follows Marshmello’s meteoric rise to become a global phenomenon. After releasing his Joytime III album, the masked DJ has put out a 26-minute long mini documentary chronicling his unprecedented growth.

Unlike most documentaries, “More Than Music” offers no insight on Marshmello’s personal life and background. Rather, we have marshmello’s manager Moe Shalizi referring to him as a brand and how Moe is capitalizing on Marshmello’s anonymity to put out a constant stream of content like “Cooking With Marshmello”. In fact, the only time we see the DJ talking is when he meets his Australian superfan suffering from Leukemia. The documentary, on the whole, feels like it’s targeted to family audiences with beeping out of F-words and highlighting marshmello’s positive impact on kids.

“More Than Music” has a special segment on India, documenting Marshmello’s recent tour in the country, interviews with his fans here and the making of his Bollywood crossover hit ‘BIBA’ in collaboration with composer Pritam.

The mini-doc also features behind the scenes interviews from supemwyrstar DJs The Chainsmokers, Martin Garrix, Tiesto along with rapper Logic and popular gamer Ninja.
