If you’re a drum & bass head, MUZZ previously known as MUZZY is the name you would be familiar with for sure. In the past few years, this enigmatic act has stunned the electronic music scene with his fierce, high octane music. With over 40 releases in his discography, MUZZ has collaborated with Celldweller, Delta Heavyand Rob Swire & Gareth McGrillen from Pendulum & Knife Party, he’s also remixed the latter with his phenomenal spin on “Ghost Train”, alongside remixes for Black Tiger Sex Machine, Pegboard Nerds and Snails to name a few.

In the coming months, he is all set to unveil his debut album titled ‘The Promised Land’ featuring a number of talented acts. With stunning tunes such as ‘Star Glide’, ‘The Warehouse’ & more already released, MUZZ has given us a taste of his highly anticipated LP. MUZZ’s debut album ‘The Promised Land’ is certainly firing up the drum & bass scene and beyond with its cutting-edge production and glittering features.

Ahead of the album release, we got an opportunity to chat with MUZZ check it out below:

Your new tune ‘Star Glide’ is an absolutely powerful release! So how was it working with Cammie Robinson again and what was the best part of working on this tune?

Cammie is a brilliant new songwriter and vocalist with a distinct style. She’s usually on songs that have a more pop flavor but I wanted to write something that was different and multi-dimensional. The track is a wild blend of Drum & Bass, Pop and Hard Rock.

With this release, you also announced your debut album ‘The Promised Land’. The name is pretty intriguing, what does it signify?

I’ll leave it to you to interpret it however you want!

In which year did you discover the signature MUZZ sound? Do you like to keep your tracks complex or as simple as possible?

The ideas for my tracks have a very simple brace but they certainly get very complicated very quickly with many layers, instruments, processing and a vast array of influences. I felt my sound became much more defined around 2016 when I released ‘F Minor Factory’, and continued that path whilst dancing around new themes with ‘Spectrum’ & ‘The Cascade’. ‘The Promised Land’ is my most defined body of work yet and is definitely a good anchor to hear my sound at its most realized: Hard, larger than life and euphoric.

You have released a lot of tunes on Monstercat imprint since the very beginning of your career & now you’ll be releasing your debut album on it. How has the label played an important role in your life?

I doubt I’d be where I am today without Monstercat. Working with them is a privilege and they have shown me an absolutely unparalleled level of support and mentorship very early in my career when I knew absolutely nothing about what I was doing. I owe a lot of my position in dance music to them, the amazing creative freedom, and the supportive relationship we have together.

What are your thoughts on the future of Drum & Bass?

I’ve always felt like somewhat of an outsider to the genre, never really releasing with Drum & Bass labels or doing many label events. It’s unorthodox for a Drum & Bass artist to be releasing with a label dealing with the broader dance and pop scene, however with this album I’ve felt more inclined to open up my sound more to other genres and styles rather than limiting them to exclusively D&B. I love the genre, and always will, but I also love many other genres and don’t want to close those doors. The future of any genre is to evolve it and mash it with other styles and new sounds, which is what I’ve always done since I started making music, and this album explores those new territories.

What’s your go to VST Plugin while starting new projects? Any plugin which you’d like to recommend to the upcoming Drum & Bass producers?

I actually like using very simple sounds and plugins to start off with and making a “skeleton” version of a track and see if I catch a vibe like that. All the wild sound design and other complexities come later. My go-tos are Kontakt & Serum.

All the best for your upcoming debut album, we simply can’t wait to check it out!

Thank you 😀
