Jon Gurd returns to Anjunadeep with the release of his new album, “Phoenix,” which is available now on the label.

‘Phoenix’ comes after Jon’s critically praised album ‘Lion,’ which debuted at #3 on the iTunes Dance list and received support from DJs like Solomun, Stephan Bodzin, Adriatique, Ida Engberg, and Shadow Child. ‘Phoenix’ takes inspiration from concepts of rebirth, signifying the beginning of a new chapter, whereas ‘Lion’ examined themes of loss.

Phoenix was written during the UK lockdown last year. When things at home got to a pretty low point I asked myself what is the most empowering thing I can do right now and the answer was to make a new album. I’ve always wanted to make an album called Phoenix. I like the idea of rebirth and coming back stronger after big challenges. – Jon Gurd

Jon began his career in the UK underground in the early 2000s as the regular DJ at the iconic Slinky in Bournemouth, where he warmed up for Mauro Picotto and Paul van Dyk. Paul Woolford, Sasha, Lee Burridge, James Zabiela, and Sander Kleinenberg championed Jon’s early productions, and Jon soon found himself touring the world with the musicians he’d been opening for only a few years earlier.

Jon’s thoughts on his newest album,

“A lot of the album is about getting close to the bone of feeling, a lot like Lion was in a way, but this time trying to translate old subconscious memories into feeling. Memories of euphoria when I just started clubbing 20 years ago. The excitement of discovering and dancing to music for the first time. The feeling of connection on the dance floor with people you’ve never met before. The after-parties, the whole thing.”

Jon Gurd is doing a number of in-person and online DJ performances in support of the album release, including his album release party at Modern Wharf Terrace in London and the Anjunadeep Explorations Festival in Albania.

‘Phoenix’ is the latest album by Anjunadeep, dubbed “one of dance music’s top tastemaker companies” by Billboard. Lane 8, Dusky, Yotto, and Ben Böhmer are among the artists discovered by the label.
