Maddy O’Neal’s work evolves. She creates future bass with sophisticated synth design, electro-soul melodies, and groovy basslines. The dynamic musician is continually exploring new sounds and approaches, highlighting her distinct originality in the male-dominated bass field.

Ricochet, her first full-length album since 2016 and the follow-up to four EPs, will be an immersive, intimate experience, drawing listeners through a changing arsenal of genres and soundscapes. O’Neal plays percussion pads, piano, and synthesizers, and collaborates with singers and instrumentalists. This daring collection of work explores the musical auteur’s creative and personal dichotomies.

Change Of Pace widens O’Neal’s sound pallet while preserving her artistic flare. Change Of Pace features LA-bred vocalist MOONZz (the singer-songwriter project of Molly Williams who featured on Big Gigantic’s “Future’s All I See,” CloZee’s “Hold On,” DROELOE’s “Statues,” and SLUMBERJACK and Daktyl’s “Crucified”).

Change Of Pace is the first collaboration between the two artists, and their writing process was a natural creative relationship (both are CU Boulder alumni).

The track has a genre-blending, trunk-rattling instrumental that combines trap and bass music components. MOONZz’ vocals flow throughout the tune and anchor the electronic core with angelic, victorious melodies.

Change Of Pace is a booming song going into O’Neal’s album release and promises genre-crossing innovations.

The bassist will play Ricochet at Hulaween, Secret Dreams, Same Same But Different, and Lost Lands this year. O’Neal’s live performances include unique compositions, percussion pads, and an interwoven tale, ranging from grimey bangers to vocal bass songs and head nod disco.
