Jorja Smith has always had a way of making R&B feel personal, but What Are The Odds takes that feeling somewhere more energetic. Released on 21 August 2026 through FAMM, her third album leans heavily into UK Garage, 2-Step, Grime, UK Funky, Soulful House and Afro House. The change is noticeable, but it does not feel like Smith is trying to become a completely different artist. Her voice and songwriting still sit at the centre, while the production gives the songs more room to move.

The 12-track album moves through some pretty familiar human territory, including friendship, love, loneliness, betrayal, grief and figuring yourself out. For Life looks at being there for a friend dealing with addiction, while Pretend deals with betrayal and the title track touches on what it is like growing up with people watching. There is also a strong UK connection through This City, featuring Devlin, while Alive brings Wizkid into the mix.

One of the interesting things about the album is how quickly much of it came together. Smith and longtime collaborator P2J started working on the project after Little Things, and most of the record developed during three relaxed studio sessions. That freedom seems to be a big part of the album’s character. Instead of sounding overly planned, What Are The Odds feels like Smith giving herself permission to experiment with different rhythms and let the songs take their own shape.

For anyone who has followed Jorja Smith from Blue Lights to falling or flying, this album is an interesting next step. The emotional side of her music is still there, but the emphasis has shifted towards movement, rhythm and the club. With tracks such as What’s Done Is Done, Dancing, I Lied, You Lied and Young Heart, What Are The Odds shows Smith exploring a more dance-focused side of her sound while keeping the qualities that made her music stand out in the first place.
