The trio of Diplo, Walshy Fire and Jillionaire have been bringing a revolution to the dance music world with their dancehall sound since 2011, when the group’s founding member Switch left to focus on his solo career. Following the announcement of Major Lazer’s final album ‘Lazerism’, rumors have been rife on Jillionaire leaving the group. The speculations began when the video posted on Major Lazer’s social media handles signaling ‘a new era’ had an absence of Trinidadian DJ Jillionaire.

Jillionaire’s disappearance from the group’s social media activities was quite telling. What made his departure even more apparent was the American producer Ape Drums joining Diplo and Walshy Fire to complete the trio and replace Jillionaire at the group’s performance at Governor’s Ball this past weekend.

There was still no official confirmation on Jillionaire’s departure and with many news agencies reporting Jillionaire’s exit from Major Lazer, it was time for Diplo to clear the air on the whole situation. The Grammy winning producer reached out to Dancing Astronaut to give his statement on the matter.

“Jillionaire is always part of the team. Ape Drums is helping with production on some tracks (he’s done a few songs with us before) so he is going to tour with us as well…it’s like John Mayer joining the Grateful Dead.”

While it still remains to be seen what role does Jillionaire play in the group’s future and whether Ape Drums will be a permanent member to form a quartet, Diplo’s latest cryptic tweet might have just confirmed the addition of a newest member of Major Lazer.
